Standing 150m high and nestled in the lush green forests on the foothills of Mt. Kilimanjaro, a Materuni waterfalls tour is an ideal getaway for those strapped for time. The waterfalls are located 30 minutes from Moshi town. This tour is accompanied by a visit to the Materuni village as well as a coffee tour. Materuni is one of the few villages of wonder in Northern Tanzania sitting at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro. The village is blessed with full of all the beauty worth much visiting for holiday, week-end outing or vacation. While in the village, scenic view of Moshi Town and Mount Kilimanjaro is astonishing. This green village with fresh air from green vegetations welcomes visitors to explore the beauty of the land and cultural heritage of the Chagga people.

Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1: Moshi/Arusha – Materuni Village

Start your mini-adventure with the fascinating drive from Moshi to the village of Moshi (30 minutes drive), approximately 1800m above sea level. This territory has the perfect mixture of climate and soil to produce some of the best coffee in Africa. While at the village, you will get to explore the lives of the Chagga people and do coffee tours to see how the locals grow, harvest, roast, grind, and make a cup of coffee. Normally, we ask our clients to try roasting and preparing a fresh cup of coffee the Chagga way.

After a delightful coffee tour, you will head to the Materuni waterfalls, passing through coffee and banana plantations. Along the way, your guide will teach you about local plants and how they are used for food and traditional medicine, and how they make local brew, as well as giving you more insight into the local Chagga culture. You will have your packed lunch and spend the rest of the afternoon at the waterfalls.

The mountain waters fall straight down in a shimmering curtain to splash in the rippling pool where you can float, take a swim, and chill out – literally, as these are pure mountain waters and not yet heated by the sun. Afterwards, you will be transferred back to your hotel in Moshi/Arusha
