Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1: Machame Gate to Rainforest Zone (Machame Camp Area)

Your journey begins in the morning with a drive from Moshi to Machame Gate for registration and briefing. After meeting your guide and porters, you start trekking through the lower slopes of Kilimanjaro.

The trail passes through dense tropical rainforest filled with tall trees, thick vines, and rich vegetation. This section is known for its high humidity and frequent wildlife sightings, including colobus monkeys and a variety of forest birds.

The hike is steady but can be muddy and slippery depending on the season. As you ascend, the forest becomes quieter and more atmospheric, offering a true wilderness experience.

You will stop for a packed lunch along the trail before continuing to the Machame Camp area. After arrival, you can relax, enjoy the mountain atmosphere, and take in views of the surrounding forest canopy. Dinner is served at camp before an overnight stay in tents.

Day 2: Machame Camp to Higher Viewpoint and Descent

After an early breakfast, you continue hiking upward from Machame Camp into more open terrain. The forest gradually gives way to heath and moorland zones, offering wider views of the mountain landscape.

This section is steeper and more challenging, giving you a taste of the more rugged side of the Machame Route. On a clear day, you may enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding plains and distant peaks.

After spending time at a higher viewpoint, you begin your descent back down along the same trail. The return journey is faster but requires careful footing due to loose and sometimes slippery terrain.

You arrive back at Machame Gate in the afternoon, where you receive your trekking certificate before transferring back to your hotel in Moshi.
